First WordPress Test Post
December 23rd, 2005This is my first post from within WordPress. I have to say I really like the new interface a lot better. Moving from Blogger to WordPress also reminds me of the kind of freedom one gets when he moves out of his parents basement for the first time.
Blogger is great—when you’re just a kid-blogger but I think there comes a time when every blog publisher realizes that databased driven content is the only way to go. So thanks Blogger for everything, but I’m moving up in the world.

blogger is database driven. They just don’t have enough fields or queries.

But with Blogger I wasn’t in control of the database; with WordPress I am.

Jeff,
Is the wordpress difficult to transition your blogger blog to?
I am interested in the categories and switching but wasn’t sure. You may given me a good boost. Where is a good spot to get a domain name? for pretty inexpensive? What do you think?

I hosted my site at infinology.com and I’ve been very happy with them. They are located someplace in California, and though I wasn’t sure if I might prefer a Canadian host—it hasn’t been a problem. It cost a little over $100 for the year but my ads have paid down the costs so it’s been totally worth it.
I recommend finding a host that supports PHP first and then setup the free WordPress software. It’s not as complicated as it might seem; in fact while I was setting it up I was very surprised at the simplicity of the whole thing.
Once you have your WordPress software setup, check out From Blogger to Wordpress. It will even import posts from multiple authors and all the comments.

I am still happy with Infinology. There have been a few annoying downtimes, but I am planning on renewing with them.
