Frank Zappa on CNN Crossfire (1986)

February 27th, 2006

Twenty years ago Frank Zappa appeared on CNN Crossfire to talk about the censorship of lyrics in music.

John Lofton of the Washington Times argued that [American] families are under attack from people like [Zappa] with these satanic/obscene lyrics. Zappa didn’t think the words in music were the problem, he didn’t think it was the cold war either. He stated, “The biggest threat to America today is not communism, it’s moving America toward a fascist theocracy and everything that’s happened during the Regan administration is steering us right down that pipe.”

This video gives a fascinating look back at the concerns and trends of the mid-80’s and is an inciteful slice out of the controversal history of rock music.

While I can appreciate morals and attitudes may have changed significantly since the 80’s the debate is still somewhat relevant… anyone listen to Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo? mmm…….it probably wasn’t a song designed for public broadcast though so I guess thats OK?

Hello ! I’m looking for new listeners and since Frank Zappa is somebody I get compared to once in a while, I thought you could be interested by what I do in a dark room, really late at night..and without the slightest idea of what will come out of me next.

My new album is now available for sell, but it’s still without its first reviews. In the past, I have received incredible press from a variety of sources (All Music Guide, great composers…).

See and mostly listen by yourself some Philosophie Fantasmagorique.

    Thank you !

“In the course of a lifetime, one encounters very few major musical talents. Vincent Bergeron is one of those few, a unique composer who is at the forefront of musical thinking.”
