CAPSoff

August 23rd, 2006

WHO ACTUALLY USES THE CAPS LOCK KEY ANYWAY? Oops, I mean who actually uses the caps lock key anyway? People who like to shout, that’s who. But having spent upwards of 3 minutes contemplating the usefulness of the caps lock, I for one agree, it’s time to do away with caps lock key.

I should also mention that it’s high time we get rid of comic sans and while we’re at it let’s give the planet Pluto a demotion. Can you hear me? DEMOTE PLUTO NOW!

Upon further consideration caps lock is kind of handy for easy yelling. KNOW WHAT I MEAN? :)

I don’t know about getting rid of CAPS, it has its uses sometimes. I usually only use caps when I’m typing headings for reports. As for demoting Pluto, why not. It’s no larger than some “moons” and “asteroids” so lets just demote it, one less planet to remember.

Apparently I saw in the news that scientists are voting on whether to add 3 more planets. These planets are larger than Pluto so if Pluto can be a planet, I guess these can too, but where do you draw the line.

Here’s a little update. I read this morning that Pluto has gotten it’s demotion, it’s now classified as a mere dwarf planet.

i use caps lock all the time for mysql queries. It’s way easier to hit the capslock and use the shift key to hit the uncapped terms.

And as for the Thanh’s comment above:

“These planets are larger than Pluto so if Pluto can be a planet, I guess these can too, but where do you draw the line. ”

I think you should draw the line wherever it lies. If there’s fifty more planets out there, why not add them? I think we should define the classification and then add them as we discover them, no matter whether or not it upsets our nine planet model.

But what will kids sing nowadays? My very educated mother just served us nine pizzas will have to take on some crazy new adds. Poor kids.

Ben, they ran a viewer poll on some phrases to help people remember the planets in our state newspaper. I didn’t really look at the phrases, but you are right, there will need to be a lot more add ons.

I used to use “My Very Easy Memory Jingle Seems Useful Naming Planets”.

Jeff, I just checked the newspaper and they have demoted Pluto. Pluto is officially “dead” as one newspaper put it.

To quit calling Pluto a planet will diminish our importance in the universe. No longer will we be known as the solar system with nine planets. You can\’t even imagine the crestfallenness that I feel. At least we still have Pluto the dog.

I use styles for headings if I want all uppercase letters. I also find that SQL queries are far easier without the Caps Lock on considering that which needs uppercase letters consists of far less than half of all letters in most of my queries.
