Congratulations, You’ve Just Won!
November 30th, 2006“Congratulations, you’ve just won a trip to the Bahamas, Florida, or Cancun. Please press nine for further details.”
9.
“Hello, is this Jeff I’m speaking with?”
“Yes, this is Jeff”
“Hi Jeff, I’d just like to confirm…”
“oh, just a second, where are you calling from?”
“I’m calling from Orlando, Florida… oh um, mumble mumble travel agency”
“oh, ok…” whatever.
“Can I just confirm your phone number in case we get disconnected?”
“Well actually, your company has called my house before, and I’ve asked very nicely on several occasions to be taken off your list, but everytime I ask, I get hung-up on. Is there anyway you could please take me off your phoning list?”
“Oh, well actually because you’re in Cancun, I mean… um, Canada, the computer just dials the numbers and I have no way of removing them from the computer”.
“I see, well do you think it would be possible for me to talk to your manager and see if he or she could remove me from the list?”
“Actually, if I put my manager on, he won’t remove your number either, I’ll get in trouble and he’ll probably just hang up on you too.”
“Why do you work at a place that hangs up on people?”
“oh, I don’t know, it pays the bills—I guess. Have a good night.”
“Thanks, you too.”

Don’t you just hate telemarketing. Nowadays I don’t even give them a chance to say anything. Once I know its telemarketing, I just “No thanks” and hang up. I know that the person is only doing a job so I don’t want to be rude, but its just so annoying and is almost harrasment since they always call you at dinner time. It’s not like I chose to get marketed to, they just bought my details off someone. I hope they introduce the listing here in Australia where you can register not to receive telemarketing and its a crime if they still call you.

i agree with jeff on this, why would you work a job if you cared that your actions just upset folks, i start asking for names, verifying names as i ask for management, google the number & start being rude until they get the message & stop calling, generally this works
just doing their jobs, sorry no sympathy here, i won’t be guilted into this

my dad actually works as a telemarketer, and its surpising when companies don’t take you off the list, especially when they can and dont.
But most companies will actually take you off the list, but also telemarketers that are selling for like Bell or Rogers cannot take you off the list if you do business with them, like say you have a Bell home phone, because you use them for your phone they cannot and will not take you off they’re list.
where as if you didn’t have the bell home phone and they phoned you and you did no business with them at all, they are supposed to take you off the list.
I still find the most exciting thing to do is to when they phone and as for say ‘mr.white’ you go ” NO! HE JUST DIED, HOW DARE YOU SPEAK HIS NAME, OH MY GOSH!#!@!&%$”
you should really try it sometime.
