Since getting a guitar from my parents last month, I’ve found myself a lot more interested in all things guitar related. On that “note”, this iPhone guitar application is amazing.
I wonder what the range of songs you could play on it, seeing as it’s pretty tiny compared to an actual guitar.
I’ve got a small problem with my iTunes and ipod—they’re no longer talking to each other. It seems to be related to an error I started getting a few days ago, “iTunesHelper.ex.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program.”
I did a search and found one other poor soul that seems to have had the exact same error, but this was back in 2004. Unfortunately no one responded to his request:
I’ve installed the software that came with my iPod but keep getting a Program Error “iTunesHelper.ex.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program”. When I open iTunes I then get another error message “The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod’s software”. I’ve uninstalled and re-installed the iTunes software about 20 times and still can’t get it to work. Can anyone help me?
And since his plea went unanswered, my question is: can anybody help me? I haven’t reinstalled 20 times yet, but twice and it still hasn’t done the trick. Perhaps somebody visiting has had the same problem and knows how to fix it?
Last week I saw this image floating around the net of a new prototype full screen video iPod. I didn’t think much of it, because I just assumed it was a manipulated image. As it turns out, it is fake and here is a nice little video showing the “faking process“.
What I find interesting is the lengths this person went to, not only to try and push his image to the forefront, but also in documenting the process so that a week later, attention could be drawn once again to their work—essentially doubling the mileage of the forgery.
I found this linked all over the net but I think it’s pretty cool so I am posting a link to it here. It’s a homemade mitten with a built in pocket for your iPod. The coolest part is that the iPod actually warms your hand while you listen to music. It looks like it’s falling out in the image but the iPod fits completely in the pocket - it’s shown halfway out here for illustrative purposes.

One of the things I like about my iPod Photo is that I have the ability to link album artwork with my music files. One of the things I don’t like about it is that for someone like me that has a rather large music collection, it takes an awful lot of effort to add artwork to each song.
Luckily someone wrote a new application that automatically goes out and downloads artwork for each of your songs. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve read about it from a few different sources and it sounds to be a great program.
I stumbled upon this site the other day about handheld devices that are able to play ported versions of the classic first person shooter, Doom.
It turns out the iPod Photo when loaded with a Linux OS can handle playing Doom (although from the video it seems pretty slow).
Still, it looks cool to see Doom on an iPod and maybe in the future they will fix it so that it’s not so choppy. Apparently it plays all wad files: Doom I Shareware (won’t play demos), Doom II Shareware, Ultimate Doom, Final Doom wads, and my personal favorite Doom II. Check out http://www.ipodlinux.org/Doom for more info, photos, and video.
Disclaimer: I never tried this on my own iPod. For now I’m happy just using the default iPod OS.
Lately, I have been using a great program called Sharepod to copy songs on and off of my iPod onto computers that don’t have iTunes installed. I have tried some other software to do the same thing, but this one works just fine. You can even run the software right off your iPod - no installation necessary; best of all - it’s free!
For Christmas this year, Anna-Maria bought me an iPod! It’s a 40 gig iPod Photo! Which is awesome for a number of reasons but mostly because it shows that she must really think I’m pretty great to be worthy of such a cool present.
So I’ve been learning all about iPods and here are a few of the things that I’ve learned:
iPod’s notes section is considerably lacking as it only allows short notes. There is a text to iPod note converter that takes long text and breaks them into smaller ones, meanwhile linking them altogether via hyperlinks.
Part of learning about iPod is also learning about iTunes. The auto-update feature asked if I wanted to upgrade to the newest version of iTunes. Luckily I did some research before I clicked. What I found out is that iTunes 4.7.1 scans the user’s music collection and any unlocked music it identifies as being purchased from iTunes, it puts a new fairplay DRM lock back on those tracks. I haven’t purchased any music from Apple (so far I’ve just been ripping my CD collection) but I’m planning on it and when I do, I don’t want to be restricted as to what I can do with music that I’ve legally purchased. I’m thinking twice about the new version - and maybe I’ll skip buying music online at all… for now.
“I’ll buy you an IPOD if you be my GF for one and 1/2 weeks - $300″ reads the headline of an apparently desperate 24 year old single white male from New York City. His parents are coming to visit and he “needs” someone to play the part of the love of his life that he has told his parents so much about. Is it a real plea for help or a new marketing technique trying to increase the perceived value of an Ipod. You be the judge.
