Imagine Peace Tower

Yoko Ono is about to unveil the Imagine Peace Tower in Videy Island, Reykjavik, Iceland on October 9th 2007, John Lennon’s birthday. The tower will exist in the form of light shooting into the sky and symbolizes love, peace, and harmony.

Despite what some may criticize as a new age, hippie, pipe dream—I think it’s pretty nice.

The IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is an artwork conceived by Yoko Ono in memory of John Lennon.

It is dedicated to peace and bears the inscription IMAGINE PEACE in 24 languages.

Its construction and installation is a collaboration between Yoko Ono, the City of Reykjavik, Reykjavik Art Museum and Reykjavik Energy.

The work is in the form of a wishing well from which a very strong and tall tower of light emerges. The strength, intensity and brilliance of the light tower continually changes as the particles in the air fluctuate with the prevailing weather and atmospheric conditions unique to Iceland.

Every year it will light up between October 9th (Lennon’s birthday) and December 8th (the day of his death).

In addition the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER will be lit on New Year’s Eve, during the first week of spring and on some rare special occasions agreed between the City and Yoko Ono.

Vista Fonts

The new fonts included with Windows Vista are called Calibri, Cambria, Candara, Consolas, Constantia, and Corbel, and even though you don’t have Vista you know you want them.

These are the new and improved fully finished versions. Update (March 31, 2008) If you want an official source for the fonts install PowerPoint Viewer 2007. The fonts will be automatically added to your Windows system. (Disclaimer: Read the legal fine print on Microsoft’s site for usage rights.)

Five Years Ago Today

My House September 2002

Today is the fifth year anniversary of owning my own home.

I moved to Lethbridge in the fall of 2002 to go to University and of all the decisions I’ve made since moving here, buying a house has got to be one of the best.

I’ve watched as the value of the house doubled in only a few years and there is nothing quite as satisfactory as the feeling I get knowing that I have a place to call my own.

Hopefully I’ll have it paid off in the next five.

Life Imitates the Onion

Back in January 2001 The Onion satirically told us Bush’s plan to end the US’s “Long National Nightmare Of Peace And Prosperity”. It’s scary how accurate they were.

“My fellow Americans,” Bush said, “at long last, we have reached the end of the dark period in American history that will come to be known as the Clinton Era, eight long years characterized by unprecedented economic expansion, a sharp decrease in crime, and sustained peace overseas. The time has come to put all of that behind us.”

Canadian Dollar Goes Par

Today, for the first time in my lifetime (and since 1976 if you want to get specific) the Canadian dollar was worth slightly more than the US’s famous greenback. If this trend sticks, I’m tempted to hit up Disneyland for a Christmas vacation, or maybe a pre-Christmas vacation.
