Stairway to Heaven Backwards – Interpretation

I have been pretty excited about the traffic my Stairway to Heaven Backwards page has been generating lately. It has been getting just under the 5000 mark for the last three days. In honor of the high hit count, I have decided to post a few of the comments that I received about the page lately. I am also thinking about creating a place for comments on the actual page.

I suppose I should mention that I am posting these messages verbatim so those of you with delicate sensibilities may find the language in one of the posts offensive.

“Hello..

My name is Haukur and I live in Iceland. I just saw your flash thing on stairway to heaven and I think it’s awesome. How in the world did they do that? So I was wondering if you have the rest of the backwards lyrics in text that you can e-mail me? If you could then that would be great.

Thanks in advance…”

Well honestly I don’t know how Led Zeppelin did that, or if they even did it on purpose. I did try reading the forwards lyrics myself and playing them backwards and the backwards recording did sound like the same message you hear when playing the song backwards.

I don’t know the rest of the backwards lyrics in other places in the song so I couldn’t tell you. Sorry.

“Hi

I have just heard and seen the backwards thing that you made about the song Stairway to Heaven. I have heard these things too but not to the extent that you have showed. There is another part in the song where the lyrics go “your stairway lies on the whispering winds.” I have heard this to say “I smoke weed for Satan” when you play it backwards on the record. There are supposed to be other parts but that is the one that stuck out to me when I heard it. You did well on this. Except on the lyrics part you have them wrong. They go “there are two paths you can go by” you have “there are two paths you can go back.” No big deal. But I always try to tell my friends about this and they never believe me so I will send them a link to it. Thanks a bunch.

BEN”

Thanks for the update. I’ll double check to make sure I have the right lyrics and update the page when I am back in Lethbridge.

“hey man i dont htink thats real cause the lyrics bacwards dont match it fowards there completely different and where the fuck did 666 come from dude its not right..u need to stop telllin ppl fake shit and stop makin up this stuff”

Actually I have to admit I did make up the “reverse lyrics”. I based them on what other webpages said you were supposed to hear and what I, myself, heard. I realize that a lot of people only hear the message when they click on the show reverse lyrics button and play it but nevertheless it makes one think about the power of suggestion and how people hear what they want to, or in your case I guess you don’t hear what you don’t want to.

“im not one to say anything is fake or done for kick’s but my curiosity of listening to this a few times i have to know how did you find out how to reverse it and what besides what you said gave you the idea to do this. i mean i am a “led zeppelin” fan non-the less but like i said its odd how for a song called stair way to heaven it has satantic writings. i mean exactly how would someone figure something like this out?.

sincerly.
misa,16″

Well Misa, as far as this being fake, it is what it is. The fact is that when you play parts of Stairway to Heaven backwards, it sounds like there are satanic messages. Now whether or not the messages were intentional is an entirely different story and frankly it makes no difference (that is just my opinion though).

You said something along the lines of how odd it is that a song called Stairway to Heaven has satanic messages in it. I do not think it is actually that odd. Now I am no expert so what I am about to say is mostly opinion. If I remember correctly the song is about Lilith (Adams first Wife in Hebrew Mythology). The lyrics are pretty ambiguous but they tell a story of a lady (notice she is never called a woman – this is significant if you read about Lilith) who is trying to get to heaven. Here is the first stanza:

There’s a lady who’s sure all that glitters is gold
And she’s buying a stairway to heaven
And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed
With a word she can get what she came for

So instead of getting to Heaven through Christ (as Christian religion teaches is the only way to heaven) she is trying to buy her way to heaven with money. This is sort of alluding to the story of the Tower of Babel in that the people in that story are building their way to heaven. But when she gets to Heaven the stores are closed. I would have thought the word “doors” would have been more appropriate than “stores” nevertheless I guess “stores” emphasizes the idea not only that the doors are closed but also that you cant buy things in heaven. She does know that a password will get her what she wants. I guess the lyrics imply that there is a special word you need to say to get into heaven.

There’s a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
And you know sometimes words have two meanings
In the tree by the brook there’s a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

Frankly I have no idea what the sign on the wall is referring to. It is obviously some kind of message or rules (considering that’s what most signs are). She is uncertain, however, as to the meaning of the sign. Words having more than one meaning could be in reference to the fact that if you play the song backwards you will hear messages but more probably it is just the fact that a lot of times the rules or instructions in life (especially coming from religious sources) are often very confusing. Remember this is all just opinion. The songbird who sings in the tree by the brook also alludes me. I guess a songbird could be a messenger or perhaps an angel – either way the lyrics read that sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven so whoever or whatever the songbird represents we might not understand correctly anyway. Again perhaps in reference to the fact that words have more than one meaning.

There’s a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking

Here is my attempt at this stanza. If the song is about Lilith then maybe looking to the west is her looking back on Eden from her new home East of Eden after she was ousted from the Garden for being a bad helpmate to Adam. Her spirit is crying for leaving Eden and she remembers the smoke through the trees (smoke in Old Testament times was often symbolic of the smoke from the cleansing power of god and as such used in burning altars). The voices of those who stand looking would be the Gods talking to Adam in the garden.

And it’s whispered that soon, if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter

I would guess that this is talking about how if we all are good believers that Christ will come to earth and lead us to truth. The new day is the millennium and those who stand long are those that never give up their faith. The forest echoing with laughter is a return to Eden.

If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow
Don’t be alarmed now
It’s just a spring clean for the May Queen

Yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
There’s still time to change the road you’re on

This is the section of the song that when played backwards sounds like satanic messages. If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow could be talking about the wicked people of the earth and the spring clean might be the cleansing of the earth both by water (the Biblical story of Noah and the Ark) and by fire (John the Revelator’s explaination of what’s going to happen before the Second Coming). The two paths you can go by are symbolic and allude to following the path God has set out for us or following a path set by Lucifer. Even in the long run, there’s still time to change the road you’re on. I guess this means you can go ahead and procrastinate the day of your repentance – a different message than you would get from most pastors’ points of view.

Your head is humming and it won’t go because you don’t know
The piper’s calling you to join him
Dear lady can’t you hear the wind blow and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

So if all of this confusing you it’s because you don’t know what is right. The piper’s calling you to join him (still assuming this is Christ calling for you to repent). The lady, Lilith, has her stairway on the wind – not a very solid foundation to say the least.

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she’s buying a stairway to heaven

As the artists make their way through life, the road that they chose is leading them to darkness not light. Our shadows taller than our souls. The lady we all know is probably Lilith – shining in white light and showing how everything that glitters is gold. She is however only imitating God. That’s the whole point of the song. The Stairway to Heaven is an imitation created to make you think you can make it to heaven on your own. The tune will come to you at last – it will all make sense one day when all people have united in the one true religion and the rock coming down the mountain will be a solid foundation (not to roll). I think he’s implying that following the path he’s chosen is the right one, but remember the point of the song is imitation. Lilith is still buying a stairway to heaven.

Not that I believe any of this.

That stuff's really deep. It kinda freaks me out. You really know your bible and mythology, I'm very impressed.

on the page where it says 'whos power is satan', it sounds sort of like 'whos power is fake'.

It's very interesting. I've noticed that in the beginning of the song you hear a piper piping. That might correspond with the lyrics in some way.

"In the tree by the brook"

Recalling something I heard in Sunday school, I believe this may have to do with a certain tree in heaven that stands beside a brook. It's said that the tree grows a different type of fruit each month.

This is what Revelation 22:2 says:

"-down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations."

Its impressive to me how you know this stuff. I heard it as The piper is satan calling and that he is the one way and the laughter was maniacle evilness and everything. Of coarse, i am uber-christian. But you know, it sounds satanic if you think of it that way, it sounds christian your way, and its completely lost to just about everyone else. But thanx for pointing this out. It is comforting to know it more as a christian song. It gives me shivers the satanic way!

I think this whole thing is kind of creepy, but is you noticed he sings about two paths, heaven and hell. The two paths in my opinion are playing the record forwards and backwards, so one way (forwards) is a path to heaven and the other (backwards) is a path to hell.

I knew about the satanic message when listened back to front, but never bothered to try it. Impressive what you've done. I always loved this song (it's the one I like best by Led Zep), but now… I don't know. This stuff is creepy. Any feedback from the guy who wrote that song ?

someone asked for a comment by the person who wrote the song. luck would have it, there is a comment from robert plant that i know of.

stairway to heaven is probably the deepest song led zeppelin wrote, and possibly one of the most controversial songs in history as to its exact meaning. and what did plant have to say about its meaning?

he said, simply, that the band was so high on "rock and weed" when they wrote the song, that the band has no idea what the song was about either. i'd say that the interpretation on this site is one of the best i've read, though.

Uh … Whoa. I agree with the last comment. The different interpretations and backward/forward play seem pretty convincing, but my dad once heard an interview with the remaining members of Led Zeppelin, and all of them denied it having any satanic messages anywhere, backward or forward. Haha, what kind of interview with Led Zep would it be without the token satanic message question?

Everyone I have shown this to have said I'm a creep for thinking that its really amazing! I am so excited about it all, I just want to keep reading more. I want to find out more about these message in songs. Do you know where I can find out more about them?

It's very possible that Led Zepplin was having some fun with playing stuff forward and backwards. You know artists just love to play around with new gadgets. :) And that part where you hear the satan lyrics may have been intentional.

Or maybe it's just a coincidence. Maybe this is all a bunch of over-analyzing.

So yeah, it doesn't really matter, in my opinion. It doesn't bother me if it was intentional, 'cause it's not all that important. I mean, people are throwing out their records just because it has a "satanic message" in it? I see it as a little fun by the band members. Who knows, or cares, if it's intentional or if it is really a statement of devotion to satan?

Whatever. :)

hi,
my name is jordan. i am a rather big led zeppelin fan and in my search for zeppelin secrets i have came across many things. what my post is about is the refrence to the line in stairway to heaven
" Yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on" i have found that this could be about the church of satan. the church of satan beleives that in life there are two paths, one is light(god)one is dark(satan). their beleives are that once you start down one path you are stuck on that path. but as you can see in the lyrics
"There's still time to change the road you're on" as i can see it this means that even though you have chosen a path there is still time to change your path.

p.s. sorry about any spelling errors.

I really like your interpratation of the song; however, I believe that "And a new day will dawn for those who stand long" means that the followers of christ who dont waver will have a never ending life in heaven

That's pretty freaky. I'm a BIG zeppelin fan and this doesnt change how i feel about zeppelin (although thats still really freaky). Maybe something happened to the band to cause this wildness. Maybe the power of both God and Satan was there, they both did this to let the world know that theyre still there because they(God and Satan) knew that this song would be famous! Now, with the help of modern-day technology, we can finally(after about 30 years)decifer what the backward tracks really say! i am indeed impressed and i'm not blaming led zeppelin for this, but i know for a fact that this is a God-Satan thing. I cannot thank you enough for this.

Thanks again,
Kyle Siverhus,15,wis.

I wanted to add. In the lyrics where it says "Yes there are two paths you can go by. But in the long run theres still time to change the road your on."
Definatly goes with the theme you have put to the lyrics. It IS about Led Zepplin or maybe just Robert Plant(he wrote the song)and the path they have chosen. Which is the same path Lillith chose. To try to find Heaven on earth through worldly things cause she is sure "All that glitters is gold" but if that dont work and "The stores are all closed"
"With a word she can get what she came for." I think that word would be "forgiveness". Which goes with that fact that the bible tells us we can always ask for forgiveness at any point in your life and be forgiven. Example: The 2 men with Jesus on the crosses. One of the men asked Jesus to "Remeber me" Jesus "forgave" him of his sins right then, and the man went to Heaven.
It seems to me that Led Zepplin has chosen to take the path of worldy pleasure. Like Lillith. "All that glitters is gold….Buying a Stairway to Heaven…" If that dont work though they are counting on the fact that "theres still time to change the road your on"–"With a word she can get what she came for"
Possibly means "With a word"-Forgiveness- "She can get what she came for"-Heaven.
I think though that sometime later Robert Plant may have had doubts about this plan for his life.
In the live version of "Stairway to Heaven" from "The Song Remains the Same."
After signing the lyrics. "Yes there are two path you can go by but in the long run. Theres still time to change the road your on."
Robert Plant say "I hope so"
Which he should cause no man knows when they will die. So what if he dies before he asks for forgiveness?

About the Piper piping at the begginning of the song and some reference; The reference could be to the book of revelations when Angels blow their Trumpets (I believe it was the angels or it could've been the four horsemen. Please correct me if Im wrong)

i just thought u would be interested to no that apparently jimmy page did black magic and worshippped satan and that rubber plant was quite a christian person and apparently jimmy page did a satanic ritual before writting his prts of the song stairway to heaven and i hav also herd that ther is a part that can be played back that has rubber plant apologising to god for being apart of the satanic song.

I dont think your interpretation of stairway to heaven is entireley accurate. Not being a christian I really dont agree with you. Consider this song to be about Drugs and rock and Roll. The two paths that plant talks about are towards the world of drugs and addiction while the other is the world of sobereity. I think the message is that Rock and Roll can save our soul not from damnation from God as you suggest but from damnation from Drugs. Art and Music are to be our Saviour. The Songbird who sing is the representative of art— Symbol of the poets or artist (like Plant Himself) spirits. I find Stairway to Heaven to be very poetic resembling the poetry of John Keats. Lets not forget the Robert Plant himself was very Learned. REad "Ode to A nightingale" to see my point. Anyway Ill see write more later.

I'm not religious but I think all the interpretations presented here are very interesting and worth consideration. I'm impressed with all the thought people have given this song, backwards and forwards. If you're interested in hearing more backwards clips you can go to http://backmask.wootang.net but there aren't many interpretations of the hidden messages, whether they were put there purposefully or not.

dude, its pretty common knowledge that the general idea behind this song is "Drugs vs Sobriety"…

"a lady who knows all that glitters is gold"

– drugs, being high = good

"when she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed, with a word she can get what she came for"

– this seems pretty obvious, a chick going downtown to score some dope… even if its late, and everythings closed, all she has to do is talk to a pusher

"and shes buying a stairway to heaven"

– DRUGS = stairway… being high = heaven

Now its also common knowledge that the band screwed around with occultism, new age stuff – especially Page, who bought Aleister Crowley's old house for them to party and record music in. So, references to gnosticism, occultism, even straight up fantasy "and in the darkest depths of Mordor… but gollum and the evil one", etc. in the songs should be a given. Its also fairly common knowlegde that Zeppelin partied HARD at that time – lots of drugs, heavy psychedelic trips, etc.

So basically the power and majesty of the lyrics is really not surprising in context. This particular song is considered a masterpeice because it has all the requisite qualities of such a work. It also happens to be from a time period which was the high-water mark of the psychedelic movement, and thus has an even more powerful and intense mystery to it.

So the multi-dimensional quality CANNOT be understated in this case. Elements of many themes are playing in this song – but the central thesis is about D R U G S. It is imminently obvious (at least to anyone thats tried them) that the "stairway to heaven" is exactly that. In the song, Plant also alludes to the "fall from Eden" and other such "heavenly" myths – to illustrate and flesh out the poetry. In a sense, it is the same conflict. The apple, the stairway to heaven, the fall, the return… Timeless myths in a modern, relevant context. Thats why the song strikes such a chord in people.

this will sound naive.. but im not really caring because i have been bothered by this:
why has no one ever asked anyone from Led Zepplin what its about? why there are satanic messages and so forth… if they have.. where is there comment. i wish to know what the creators think

Hi! I just listened to all the songs that you had and i find them all interesting, the weird al and pink floyd were great i laughed. do you think that pink floyed started it all? just a question, i am a very curious person whom becomes very interested in little things very easily. but i am quite interested in it all, if you have anymore or if you would want a second opinion on a song or something, please give me a message! yes i realize that this is a public commenting area but i am going to put m e-mail up anyways. darkphenoyx@yahoo.com. love your sight i am most definately telling my friends about this sight.

you people… you put far too much thought into this song… now… i will state some stuff about led zeppelin (and other things) that has been wronged.

jimmy page was NOT A SATANIST. he was interested in the occult, but never a satanist.

(here is one part i am not sure about but…) i dont think jimmy page was even interested in the occult until some time after zoso was released.

the occult (or wiccanism) does not have any belief in satan.

the gods (-er… band members) names are:
jimmy page (guitar)
robert plant (vocals)
john paul jones (bass, keyboards)
john bonham (drums)

the only reason these have been interpreted this way is because of over-analyzing and over-interpretation. there was no intended message. get over it. drop the whole fucking thing.

Hi. Me and my friends were browsing the interrnet and found your website. And we were all wondering what program you used to edit the songs backward. And where i can download that software.

Thanks in Advance

Hi. Its me again Uglee. And i have another question for the backwards songs. Have u seen Little Nikki and in the part where they are all having the party, Adam sandler shows all his friends Chicago backwards, and it said the satanic message. Do u think that was made up to make fun of bands no one likes anymore. or was that real?? Just wondering

Thanks

jimmy page was an open student of the black magician aliester crowly. The Stairway to Heaven album is loaded with Crowley's Luciferian teachings,
i borrowed the below from http://www.cuttingedge.org/news/n1957.cfm
when talking about Stairway to Heaven", Robert Plant claimed to be a 'musical medium'. He said the following about how he received the lyrics to the song: Plant recalled.

"“ ‘I was just sitting there with Pagey in front of a fire at Headley Grange. Pagey had written these chords and he played them for me. I was holding a pencil and paper and for some reason, I was in a very bad mood. Then all of a sudden my hand was writing out the words: “There's a lady who's sure, all that glitters is gold, and she's buying a Stairway to Heaven.” I just sat there and I looked at the words and I almost leapt out of my seat.
In 1998, the year when Page and Plant conducted their last world tour, Jimmy Page said the following (taken from the Atlantic Records web site): “When we first got back together, it was so immediately apparent that the two of us were just channeling the music. That's what we had always had, and it was so apparent that it was there. It was almost effortless.”

—————
theres alot to look into tho, but the song as a whole does infact seem to be satanic versus. more than the clip displayed on your site and when it nears its end me and a friend hold speculation that it is a spell. ok thats my food for thought.

Dude, i was really really interested in "satanic messages" some are pretty funny, so i looked further into it and saw that not just sopme songs have them, ALOT of them, do, even today's songs suck as Gwen Stafani – Holla Back Girl, when you play the chorus backwards it says: "I am no horny girrl" and its actually real, download "GoldWave", download the song and play it backwards on GoldWave, you can hear it, no joke.

I was listening to the Queen "Another One Bites The Dust" and after the first "its fun to smoke marijuana" thingie it sounds like they say "just take a little…yeah". incase u cared. Keep up the great work, everything is really cool.

"There's still time to change the road you're on." (Satan could use this as a trick to keep people away from the right road. They will die waiting for the "perfect time" to change roads)

Demonic power is beyond human capability. They can empower messages through the telephone of music (just like good messages can be relayed.)

Part of my testimony is that I threw away music that was "ungodly." There is more power in music than people know. I don't want to listen to anything that has a negative influence in my life (played forwards or backwards)

"""jimmy page was an open student of the black magician aliester crowly."""

So you are saying,,,, that seeing as Crowly died in 47 and Page was born in 44,,,, that from the ages of 1 to 3 he was his student?………..

the interpretation of the song is just awesome, one of the best ive ever seen.i have a theory of why there is a satanic message in this song though. jimmy page bought aleister crowley's mansion, as you know leader of the occult in that period of time. while writing stairway to heaven, they were usually in that mansion. as zumy said near the bottom of the comments list,

"“ ‘I was just sitting there with Pagey in front of a fire at Headley Grange. Pagey had written these chords and he played them for me. I was holding a pencil and paper and for some reason, I was in a very bad mood. Then all of a sudden my hand was writing out the words: “There’s a lady who's sure, all that glitters is gold, and she's buying a Stairway to Heaven.” I just sat there and I looked at the words and I almost leapt out of my seat.’”

i beleive that after so many years of having occult rituals performed in that house, the devil himself was a part of it and was influencing every move and thought in plant and page's heads. it may sound far fetched but weirder things have happened in this world. burndtdan also helped to prove my theory by saying

stairway to heaven is probably the deepest song led zeppelin wrote, and possibly one of the most controversial songs in history as to its exact meaning. and what did plant have to say about its meaning?

he said, simply, that the band was so high on "rock and weed" when they wrote the song, that the band has no idea what the song was about either.

That helps my theory because it would mean plant had no idea what he was writing and would be very easily influenced by some other force, i.e. satan.

I have a sound editing program. I took many different files for stairway to heaven and reversed them all. For all of you who say it was a accident (blackmasking), you wrong. They are way to clear and too long for them to be "mistaken." This song is very well thought through, not from creative drug addicts. Eveyone keeps tring to figure the song out, mabye someone should try to figure out the blackmasking meaning??? Im lost and would like to hear some suggestions.

the entire lyrics are given to the public on this site in one of jeff's updates or what not, in the lyrics it says plaaaay backwards

well this is the reality of it all…

the very last few seconds of stairway to heaven after he just said "and shes BUYYYYING A STAIRway to heaven…"

there a little whisper…and if turned on REALLY loud its jarbled…like its backwards…but your playing the song forwards….meaning that SOMEONE INSERTED A BACKWARDS MESSAGE INTO THE FORWARDS SECTION…meaning that whoever put it in was meaning for it to be heard only when played backwards….well when played backwards it says

"plaaaay backwards"

meaning that they knew that there was a hidden message in their lyrics, because the "hidden messages" were just their lyrics reveresed, but this is an actual quote thats been inserted…just like all the "fake backmasking" is done, its just normal sound clip thats been flipped….same with this…

so basically they added this first thing like say metallica would go 1 2 3, 1 2 3 before they sung mama said and then they sung

same goes for this song, they say like a little tempo… "plaaay backwards" almost subliminal like and then the backwards message plays

for your info the backwards lyrics are

Plaaaay backwards,
Hear why its sung here, oppositioner..
All on track, all arriving
They all sing, and they are one.
Shall I loathe you now, parishoner?
Oh hear Him, Christian within me.
It stirs my sin, the river,
Oh, she swells with our lousiness.
will all life end for him?
We're all out of signs,
I know I'm sorta shocked
To hear The Lord,
My God now will save me!
Oh I will never be saved,
Because I live with Satan!
One wish today,
That you'll all pray for
Three who will make it here late.
Pray now and you'll see,
The 'Lord' turned me on,
But, oh, I was the shaggy fool..
Clothed in agony,
Lost at a height.
There's no escaping it,
Nor his woes..
So here's to my Sweet Satan.
Whose little path
Would make me sad,
Whose power is satan.
He'll give those with him 666.
And there was an evil toolshed,
were he made us suffer sad-ly

Ohohohoh…
"Family won't get loose,
They're offered me."
Always soothes the worker.
Always will be as we know now
"I see ruins," said he,
"the world they offered me?
Who wished the Lord's fall?"
If we lose feather,
Say you'll save me!

And no wimps can bend the rules..
And no wimps can do..

Hunt next to the shore,
'Cause they see all from there,
See here's the news,
Who walks with mute grief!
Perhaps no-one found thee…
"Heaven, lift me out,"
Spake the Rave,
"Someday, failed, we'll lose one line-up,
They've gotta leave forsaken."

And no wimps can do..
And no wimps can do…

He, who say the lords
Thoth have our laws,
that must be superb. Mass is ended..
Over there,
He who should learn thee.
Any moot that serves by my sworn music,
I wish it with snow be shushed,
All for my mass's sake.
Hear why its sung,
here, oppositioner, Ohh..
He who should show
May make his show worthy,
To look, for us, odd.. sickly,
There's one chance, take his show.
Hold thy head,
Hear why its sung here. oppositioner.
Who owns this earth built below?
Oh sweet Israel…

I think someone should analyze this very deeply just like the forward version because they reference each other….

The fact is though, if you read the Bible, the piper was basically Satan trying to lead people away from Christ, so even the forewards lyrics are Satanic, just in a deceptive, peaceful way.

It doesn't matter that Crowley died when Page was three yrs old, because he founded the Church of Satan. His church and teachings still live on to this very day. Whoever says he just did witchcraft is wrong, and anyways, from a devout Christian's point-of-view, all witchcraft and occult activity is Satanic-whether it acknowledges Satan or not.

Hey all,
I'm a christian ppl, so I believe that there is really something behind Stairway to Heaven (Hell?). And if you listen very hard (maybe if you listen backwards, it was hard when the song was wrote (around the '70ties?)). Doesn't matter, there is only one thing that matters: we, christans, already knew that Satan is there in this world… and shows up sometimes, in kinda freaky ways too… but that's normal. To all: Jesus Christ has already beaten the Satan, so have no fear, God and Jesus are always with us ;)
Peace!

Yo, I forgot something:

From the backmaskings on this page, only the Pink Floyd and Sway seems to be really strange… But we know that PF was made directly… :|

The stairway to heaven back mask was intense (The 1st time I heard it)… the point is in my opinion led zepplin is the best group ever and if it was intentinal to have messages in the song, more power to them, it takes some skill to do that.
After i heard it i studied on how to make my own subliminal message in a song and it is hard man. and as far as what the song is about iv heard alot of opinions of what the song is about,
some 1 told me it was about a village of dwarfs. i found that real funny only because this was some 1 who didnt care for the group, a friend of mine told me it was about a girl addicted to heroin. that was a good 1, i just think its about all of my ex girl friends. greedy, coniving, backstabing…
anyways there it is.

i agree with almost all this, the song could hav 1000 means forwards or backwards only the writer of the song would no, i think we hav to eliminate meening till we hav 1 that works forwards and backwards like mine I think he is saying he took the path to satan and is forced to sing, that he is tring to tell us that bolth pathes hav advantidges and disadvantiges like where he says backwards "the was a little toolshed where he made us SUFFER SAD satan" note I uppercased 2 important words. in other parts he saying the path is better so i think he is supportive of bolth paths but hasnt chose 1.

Hey all,
In Led Zeps' autobiography, it apparently states that the group stayed with Aleister Crowley WHILE recording the song "Stairway to Heaven". It is assumed that the group worshipped satan, taught to them by Crowley. I guess, as a part of these satanic studies comes the neccesitie to learn how to speak and write backwards. I believe this is why secret messages were found in the song.

Regardless of the fact that I slightly believe Led Zeppelin deliberately put these messages into the song, much leads me to believe it is all untrue.

The human mind, like everything has glitches. I believe these messages have the physical ability to take over the human brain.

It is a tough debate. IS the human mind corrupted by secret messages, or is "Stairway to Heaven" trying to tell us something?

And as for the "power is fake" I believe it is "faith", but again remains to be proven.

Amazing to read all the interpretations of Stairway to Heaven. Although this was one of the first songs I ever played on guitar, I actually never really tried to learn what the lyrics were about.

I don’t think i’ve ever been on a website for 35 minutes, reading comments… but well worth it!

I’ve listened to afew videos of this on YouTube, and to me, people hear what they want to hear. If they want to hear something satanic, they’ll hear something satanic. I first listened with my phone face down, to see if I could hear anything, and only one word sounded like Satan but more like Saytown. I then watched and read and yes if someone tells you what it’s saying then you can “Hear it”
It’s also like Ghost Hunters and their EVP’s(Electronic Voice Phenomena). They’ll tell you what the squeals and static said and you’ll say Yeah I did hear that…
